One main reason Robert Downey, Jr. owns being Tony Stark is because he’s so comfortable in suits, as a celebrity, it’s completely effortless. Or so it looks.
I realized I was putting off posting this because I was internally asking “Is it too soon to post Robert Downey, Jr. again?”
I don’t know I think the answer to that should be obvious, what do you say?

Brad Pitt photographed by Steven Klein for Interview, November 2012

Is it me, or does Brad Pitt look kind of super-excellent as the overt mafia boss?
He looks a bit bemused about the handgun, too, which is just making the whole character take on life in my mind…
I’m sure that sequin job is state-of-the-art hand designed or sewn or something, because you don’t get that kind of patterning from a machine sewing on sequins. I’m not a fan of sequins, but it makes me want to like them here.
I definitely like that black pleated blouse.

Double K

oh. my. gosh
wae so cute, Double K? I mean, I like his rapping, but I’ve only ever seen him being rapper-than-thou in Kim Hyun-Joong’s Break Down video, hiding under a hat. (I think the thing that makes Korean rappers so appealing is their freedom to have different sides to them, they don’t have to be street constantly or something…)
His varsity style jacket makes him legit to post here, you know. Though the little cartoon basketballs on the hoodie under that are kind of killing me, in a humor sort of way.
The star of the first two episodes of Gu Family Book (as the father of Lee Seung-Gi’s character) is apparently a guy who has been working to make a place for himself in Korean show-biz for sometime and has broken out with this drama.
I can see why. Sometimes a face needs a little more age to be truly winsome—especially if it’s a very handsome one. (Which is why I was quite charmed by these photos of Choi Siwon without his make-up; the man is suffering from looking too airbrushed when his actual age gives it more interest.)
I hope you are not over hot shirtsleeves-with-casual-accessories shots. Because I sure am not.

First of all, hah, Google Image, this is NOT Zion T. Not even close…

How did I manage to not find and post this? Joo Won looking marvellously spring like and suited in a way that matches him: somewhat effortless-looking.

The coat at the top has a faded look, making it good for dressing up a check shirt, or dressing down a dress shirt.

Here’s the cute interview that went with these photos in Elle, via omonatheydidn’t.

beautilation:

“I’ll never forget the day Marilyn and I were walking around New York City, just having a stroll on a nice day. She loved New York because no one bothered her there like they did in Hollywood, she could put on her plain-jane clothes and no one would notice her. She loved that. So as we we’re walking down Broadway, she turns to me and says ‘Do you want to see me become her?’ I didn’t know what she meant but I just said ‘Yes’- and then I saw it. I don’t know how to explain what she did because it was so very subtle, but she turned something on within herself that was almost like magic. And suddenly cars were slowing and people were turning their heads and stopping to stare. They were recognizing that this was Marilyn Monroe as if she pulled off a mask or something, even though a second ago nobody noticed her. I had never seen anything like it before.” - Amy Greene, wife of Marilyn’s personal photographer Milton Greene

A good coat does amazing things.

This isn’t one that I can see myself getting (unless I was getting a little Macklemore) but it has the right presence to fit her.

Wild hair—not just “oh, I tossed this instead of brushing it” but actually grown out wild. Paired with a neat, chic jacket. I so do love personality upstaging fashion in a portrait.
And since I have this slight fetish, I will announce to you that the bracelets tie it all together, whether anyone else would think so…

Mod.
Similar look: Fred Perry Blazer Twill.

Gingham, was the tag here.
Gingham, indeed. The still-chilly springtime is probably the only really appropriate time for such a clear check—we’re all hoping for a little more color, a little more air, and yet layering is necessary.
So it will not predominate, but enliven.

Ten’s Ties

Is it sad, or wonderful, that I recognized this suit without actually being a watcher of the show?

These ties are worth attention, because they are very character building—the suit skews a little old-fashioned, vintage in effect, and the ties play that up without being too wild or attention-grabbing.

HVRMINN

I know. It hasn’t been that long since I last posted something from these guys, but what can I do? They’ve got such sweet style.
Even to the measuring tape and sunglasses both outlining the lines.
Another vocab word: Glen Plaid! I’ve been confusing it with Windowpane Check, I’m pretty sure, so apologies.

Mastroianni.

I did not know that the square-pointed tie was actually a vintage look. Huh. Maybe I will show it a little more respect now…
Also, this is an incredibly debonaire portrait; coat open but cuffs tightly linked. Smoke, cinched tie. Urban landscape to place him in his world.
See, these pants are the ones I was talking about earlier as being too short and an abomination. They are paired with loafer-style shoes, too, I think. Such crime!
But, the dressed-down element is carried over into the bracelet, the button-up shirt by itself, collar unfastened. And it’s a great fashion portrait of Jung Woo-Sung. See, with a little flash of the shirtsleeve, you can get away with fashion murder…

Thanks to lefthandedbluestocking, I’ve been reminded of an amazing 2010 Vogue Korea shoot. When I first came across it I didn’t have the nerve to post it here. Now I’ve decided to include sharp traditional dress, from time to time.

So I can.

The dusty hues of all the colors, the mix of textiles, there is so much to love in this hanbok pictorial. The hair is ascetic, but not actually that modern. I think it’s just that bit piquing to have the model’s toenails polished, in that second to last image.

monochromekhiphop:
Sanchez

.,.and now the double-breasted suit strikes again, in pinstripes. On someone I recognize.
I am trying really hard not to like Sanchez, his beauty is oh so obvious. But then when they do things like this to me…
By the way, I may have mentioned this already, but it’s been some time so: monochromkhiphop is a totally sweet blog to follow—not the usual k-pop celebrities, but always amazing portrait photographs. I have one female-in-leather-jacket one at the bottom of my drafts I’ve been trying to get the nerve to post for ever.
Fly couple, no?
She’s got great boots, he’s notched his suit up with wide legged trousers. They have a similar color sense and idea of layering, but she’s a bit more chic, he’s a bit more avant garde.
This is actually one of the very few fashion-couple photographs I’ve loved; sometimes it seems too full of effort, or just very similar. These are compatible, but full of separate personalities.
